Manual / portable generators are a great low budget option that can usually be installed in a few hours. Typically, we will install a main breaker interlock kit with an outside outlet for the generator. If the power goes out, you just plug in a portable generator, start it up and manually select which circuits you want to use. This option is not as convenient, but is less expensive but may work for customers that already have a portable generator.
